haped by the Same Waters is a textured contemporary abstract painting in which flowing, mineral forms move between water, landscape and geological structure.
I created the surface with acrylic and natural sand, allowing areas of relief to remain physically present rather than smoothing them away. Light travels differently across these raised passages throughout the day, bringing forward ridges and details that can almost disappear under flatter illumination. From a distance, the work reads as a broad, continuous movement; closer viewing reveals a much more tactile landscape.
The painting began with a personal thought about shared experience: how two people can move through the same period of life and be shaped by it differently. Forms therefore connect without becoming identical. They approach, overlap, separate and continue in their own direction.
Water became the underlying metaphor — adaptable but powerful enough to reshape what it encounters.
This balance between movement and material presence allows the work to interact strongly with architecture without becoming a literal landscape. Its restrained mineral palette works particularly well alongside natural materials such as wood, stone, plaster and concrete, while the textured surface responds to both natural and directional lighting.
