Dendritic Fire is a sculptural work that evokes the meeting point between fire, wood and the intricate patterns of natural growth.

Collected following forestry pruning in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, this fragment of bark reveals a striking contrast between its rugged outer surface and the luminous, branching patterns of its exposed inner wood. Golden lines rise through the centre like a flame frozen in time, recalling dendritic formations, lightning, or the delicate branching structures found throughout nature.

The piece holds a tension between destruction and creation, darkness and light, roughness and delicacy. Its form seems to preserve the trace of an invisible force, as though the wood had captured a moment of transformation within its own grain.

Preserved in its original form, Dendritic Fire invites the viewer to discover the extraordinary visual worlds hidden within natural materials, where the boundaries between botanical structure, geological patterns and imagined landscapes begin to dissolve.

Meet the Creator
Wescover creator since 2026
Creation is my way back to myself.

I’m Raúl Fernández Carretero, an artist from Madrid, Spain, exploring different ways of creating and discovering myself through the artistic process.

Photography, writing and sculpture are among the mediums through which I observe, interpret and connect with the world around me. My creative practice is deeply intertwined with nature, whose forms, textures and rhythms offer me a sense of balance and a constant source of inspiration.

My project La Piel del Bosque (The Skin of the Forest) began in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, where I collected bark fragments following forestry pruning. Drawn to their colours, textures and expressive forms, I chose to preserve them as sculptural works in their own right, inviting others to discover the beauty that can exist in what is often overlooked.

I’m currently continuing this exploration through wood and other natural materials, allowing curiosity, observation and the creative process itself to guide me towards new forms of expression.
