The mosaic is called "Wildflowers" and is a part of the "Stone Flowers" series. This mosaic is inspired by natural red and green stones, coming together in a vibrant, organic composition of wildflowers blooming in early summer in the valleys. I wanted to preserve the raw textures, rich colours, and unique shapes of each stone, letting their true, natural beauty shine through.
Bridging classic mosaic craftsmanship and sculptural relief, each flower is individually constructed to emerge from the wooden base. The interplay of raised blooms and a hand-cut background consisting of different tones of green stone creates a tactile, three-dimensional presence, transforming a flat surface into an architectural artwork rich in depth, shadows, and natural rhythm.
Every stone was hand-split using a traditional mosaic hammer. By intentionally retaining the raw fractures, natural grain, and uneven edges of the marble and granite, the piece honours the elemental beauty of the stone.
