Hand Knotted in wool, this 4x7 vintage Zeki Múren rug originating from Turkey, circa 1960-1970, features a unique play of Art Deco and mid-century modern sensibilities for a Turkish rug.

On the Design:

Connoisseurs will admire this vintage Zeki Múren’s design which explores geometric sensibilities in a bold fashion. The polychromatic colorway strikes a gorgeous balance between cool & warm tones. One must admire the sheer attention to craft that achieves this sense of movement—a hallmark of Müren’s rare style. With elements all in Zeki’s style, from its colorful palette to its unique play of different sensibilities for a Turkish rug, this rug features beige-brown tones underscore pastels and other bright hues in a geometric pattern of squares, all within a solid border outlining the grid-ded field.

It’s a light and playful piece with the whimsy of a Müren rug, but also with the comfortable and livable undertone that his works also embody, so thoughtful in their approach to the postmodernist appeal of the time and collectible in his suspected works curated today

Condition:

This mid-century Zeki Müren rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its construction has been lowered to preserve its construction, which lends it the distressed look of wear and chic in a low pile.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
