Made with hand-knotted wool, this 2x3 gift-sized vintage Turkish rug originating circa 1950-1960, is a bold new addition to Rug & Kilim’s curation of rare and collectible mid-century rugs of this provenance.

On the Design:

Admirers of the craft will admire this personal vintage rug meant to catch the eye, yet still so atypical in its color and design choices that are so complementary to each other making it a comfortable, and inviting piece. The design features two distinct panels, each framed by a striking navy blue border of stylized tulip or leaf motifs that march in precise formation around cream-colored central fields. Each panel is centered by a delicate star or floral burst medallion, creating subtle focal points within the otherwise austere design. The outer border employs a series of geometric patterns in muted olive tones, providing a frame that complements rather than competes with the interior elements. This double-panel format suggests a prayer rug design influence, though simplified and abstracted to suit mid-century sensibilities. The overall effect is one of elegant simplicity, where each geometric form flows naturally into the next, creating a timeless piece that bridges classical Turkish carpet design with more contemporary sensibilities.

Condition:

This vintage Turkish rug has good condition for its age and origin. Its pile has been lowered which gives it the mild element of a distressed, shabby-chich look.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
