Handwoven in wool and originating circa 1950–1960, this 5x8 vintage Persian kilim rug is a tribal curation among the new additions to the Rug & Kilim collection.

On the Design:

Connoisseurs and designers alike will appreciate the rhythmic intensity of this vintage flatweave, where a polychromatic colorway of rich, saturated hues underscores both stripes and geometric patterns in a sophisticated all-over style. The field is defined by a dense sequence of vertical bands in deep brick red, burnt orange, and midnight blue, punctuated by delicate cream accents. Keen eyes will admire the meticulous detail within each column, where rows of geometric zigzag motifs and dashed-line stippling create a visual vibration—a true feat of precision in this expansive format.

This kilim is a colorful work of rustic charm and personal beauty, offering a bold architectural anchor with vast design applications. The nearly equal proportions of the square shape allow the geometric energy to radiate evenly, making it an idyllic choice for grounding a sitting area or centering a creative studio. This comfortable nomadic aesthetic remains grounded yet visually electric, suitable for modern and traditional projects desiring a high-impact splash of color.

Condition:

This vintage flatweave further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
