Corten steel, stainless steel. 2025. Client: The City of North Lauderdale, FL.

Installed in a roundabout, the Unirider, is an idealized image of transportation and motion. The concept of travel has been distilled down to its simplest elements - a human- like figure and a wheel. The figure is stylized and elongated. He holds out a single flower as a reminder to drivers to be kind and courteous.

Wescover creator since 2018
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Donald Gialanella originally from Maplewood, NJ, now works out of his studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. He studied fine art at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City before advancing his craft through an apprenticeship with renown artist Louise Bourgeois. He worked as a graphics producer at ABC-TV in New York in the 1980’s and received an Emmy for his work on Monday Night Football in 1990.

Gialanella has developed a distinctive visual language that blends classical sensibility with contemporary abstraction. His sculptures, often life-sized or larger, explore the emotional and psychological dimensions of the human form, emphasizing gesture, texture, and negative space.

He has done over 30 monumental public commissions that can be found from California to New York in civic spaces, corporate collections, hospitals, and city streets, where his pieces serve as contemplative focal points.
