“Transition Blue” — Contemporary Wood Wall Art
Original Mixed Hardwood Sculpture by Craig Forget
“Transition Blue” is part of my ongoing Transition Collection, a body of work exploring tonal movement, natural gradients, and the interplay between raw wood and vivid color. In this piece, warm hardwoods merge seamlessly with layered blue tones, creating a serene, horizon-like composition that shifts from earth to sky.
The artwork measures 22” × 32” and is crafted entirely by hand in my professional studio.
Artistic Composition
This sculptural wall piece is built from a curated blend of natural hardwoods, each chosen for its color, grain, and warmth:
Black Walnut
White Oak
Hickory
Maple
Douglas Fir
Cedar
Sycamore
These species create the neutral gradient, while the blue elements are achieved using a custom dye formula I prepare in the studio. Three different wood species are stained using the same dye, producing three distinct shades of blue, each absorbing color in its own unique way.
The final surface is sealed with two coats of water-based clear finish, ensuring long-term stability with zero maintenance required.
Made to Order for Collectors
Each “Transition Blue” artwork is individually handmade to order, ensuring integrity, precision, and the preservation of the original design’s character. Because reclaimed and natural woods vary, every piece carries its own subtle uniqueness.
