Feeling very inspired by the nuances and beauty found in this blue batik fabric, I paired a geometric pattern that allowed the fluidity of the pattern in the fabric to move within the parameters of the lines in the quilt design. Today, Tomorrow is a personal reminder of what I love about quilting—textiles, design, and pattern.

Multidisciplinary artist working in textiles, digital art and design, and ceramics.

Nancy Purvis is a multidisciplinary artist living in Albuquerque, NM. Always a creative, it was not until publishing her quilt book in 2015, Quilting from Every Angle, that she noticed what fascinated her most was the design process and the patterns found within the quilts she was making. It was the very tactile nature of hand-making, exploration of pattern making, and digital manipulation of art and pattern that sparked her interest in visual art and surface design. Due to a shoulder injury, she found a new way to create through the purchase of an iPad and Procreate, which led her journey from quilting to digital art and design in 2015. From there, she imagined how some of the designs she was drawing could take form in 3d and began experimenting with a new medium in 2022: clay. While she does work in all three areas of art, she is currently most fascinated by clay and plans to continue to work with this material in a local public pottery studio. She would love to bring clay into her passion of interiors, lighting, and furniture.
