On the day of our wedding, my husband and I discovered something neither of us expected — we share the same family name on my mother's side. Salas. His family, my family. The same root, without knowing. That question followed me to Colombia. We took a trip to Guatapé, Antioquia. One painting stopped me. The colors, the contrast, the vibrancy — and the roots. Deep, long roots that eventually reached each other and connected. It said something I had been trying to understand: that our family trees belong to the collective. That even when we believe our stories are separate, the roots go deep.
