The Noir Noshi Ceremonial — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Knotted Streamer in Black and Gold

Price from £208 to £297

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): the tabane-noshi (熨斗, bundled ceremonial streamers — abundance and longevity) in heavy gold across midnight-black silk. Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For dark, ceremonial drama. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Tabane-noshi. The bundle of knotted streamers. Among Japan's most venerated auspicious symbols — abundance, longevity, the grace of giving — woven here in heavy gold across midnight-black silk. Against a deep midnight-black silk ground, the tabane-noshi is rendered in heavy gold thread, its flowing ribbons embroidered with sakura cherry blossoms, kiku chrysanthemums and kikkō tortoiseshell geometry in vermilion, azure and white. The black gives the composition its authority. The gold gives it its luminance. A pillow for ivory, champagne, deep forest green upholstery — a defining accent for interiors that favour depth over lightness. Quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Weave / technique Nishijin-ori 西陣織 (fukuro obi 袋帯) Motif Tabane-noshi 熨斗 (bundled ceremonial streamers — abundance, longevity) Construction Seamless envelope closure; no metal against the visible silk Dimensions 50 × 30 cm; small format also offered live Origin of silk Japan Assembled in Amsterdam, Netherlands Care Spot clean only Unrepeatable Yes SKU REN-PIL-003-L Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Each piece arrives with its own passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam. One silk. One story. One piece. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
