The Kurenai-Shijira — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Table Runner, Sculptural Weave in Crimson - Linens & Bedding
Price £288
Kurenai. The crimson of ceremonial authority. Among the most technically demanding dyes in the traditional Japanese palette — woven here in three dimensions through the Shijira-ori technique. The ground is dyed in kurenai, deep crimson historically associated with aristocratic presence and ceremonial authority. The Shijira-ori weave sculpts the surface into a rhythmic three-dimensional topography of peaks and channels, each catching and releasing light differently as the angle changes. Disciplined structural bands of obsidian and pale crimson bisect the surface at measured intervals. The kurenai gives the composition its temperature. The dimensional weave gives it its presence. A runner for a table that is touched as much as looked at, the shijira weave raised under the hand. The runner is lined in undyed silk to protect the face. No metal touches the visible silk. Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Each piece arrives with its own passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam.
