Awenasa was created as a one-of-a-kind, intentional commission—woven as a ritual object meant to hold meaning, memory, and presence within a home. This piece has already found its place, but it is shared here as inspiration for future bespoke work.
Each ritual tapestry begins with conversation and listening. Rather than replicating a design, I work in response to what the piece is meant to hold—whether that’s a story, a transition, a landscape, or an inner feeling that wants form.
Awenasa features a rich range of fibers and colors, layered to create depth, movement, and quiet symbolism. Natural materials are central to the work and may include wool, cotton, linen, silk, and other organic fibers, chosen for their texture, tone, and felt quality. Color is approached intuitively, allowing the tapestry to emerge as a cohesive, living surface rather than a fixed image.
THIS PIECE IS MADE TO ORDER.
Customizations to the color palette or design are welcome—just let me know what you're envisioning. While I aim to stay true to the original design, each piece is handwoven with an intuitive approach, allowing for subtle variations and one-of-a-kind details.
Lead times typically range from 3–6 months and may vary based on my current workload. Pricing can also shift slightly depending on materials and project scope. To inquire about a commission, please message me directly or fill out the form at rebeccawhitakerart.com.
You can see more of my work and stay connected by following me on Instagram @rebeccawhitakerart, or by visiting rebeccawhitakerart.com to explore my gallery and learn more about the commission process.
If you feel drawn to commissioning a ritual tapestry of your own—one created slowly and intentionally, in response to your story—this piece can serve as a reference point. Each commission is entirely unique, shaped through dialogue, material exploration, and a deep respect for the meaning it is meant to carry.
