Hand-tufted textile piece after Itō Jakuchū
By CHAMBER.GRAS

Swallow and Camellia is a hand-tufted textile piece based on a historical Japanese image after Itō Jakuchū, translated into a contemporary wall or floor work by CHAMBER.GRAS.

The piece reinterprets the delicate movement of the swallow and the graphic softness of the camellia through texture, pile height, color, and material. Rather than reproducing the image as a flat print, CHAMBER.GRAS rebuilds it by hand as a tactile textile object, giving the historical composition a new presence within an interior.

Made from a mix of acrylic, wool, and cotton, the work balances softness, structure, and visual detail. Its scale makes it suitable as a statement wall piece, floor textile, or collectible interior object for residential, hospitality, retail, or curated spaces.

For wall installation, two hook-and-loop strips are sewn onto the back of the piece, allowing it to be mounted cleanly without visible fixings.

Each piece is made by hand in the CHAMBER.GRAS studio, with attention to color, surface, edge finishing, and placement.

Translating researched art into hand-tufted textile works for contemporary interiors.

CHAMBER.GRAS is a Haarlem-based textile studio creating hand-tufted wall and floor pieces rooted in art history, archival imagery, and spatial design.

Each work begins with research into an image, artist, or visual tradition, then is translated into textile through color, texture, material, pile height, and hand finishing. Our pieces are made for interiors where art, context, and atmosphere matter — from private homes to hospitality, retail, galleries, and curated spaces.

Rather than treating rugs only as decoration, we see them as tactile works with presence, story, and placement. Every piece is made by hand in small quantities, with close attention to surface, detail, installation, and how it lives within a room.
