🍌 Bananas! 🍌
I've painted a lot of fruit over the years, but bananas are surprisingly tricky. Getting those bruises and brown spots to look natural without making them look rotten? That's the challenge.
These ones were sitting on my kitchen counter getting increasingly spotty, and I kept thinking "I should paint these before they're too far gone." Ended up racing against time a bit. They were perfect for eating but also perfect for painting, so it was a tough call.
Spoiler: I painted them first, then made banana bread. 🍞
Looks great in a kitchen or dining room, and pairs well with our other fruit still lifes (Avocado, Clementines, Tangerine)!
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Catherine Hébert is a wildlife and animal artist based in Montreal, Canada. She has a background in visual effects and brings that same eye for detail and colour to every painting. Many of her pieces are inspired by real animals she's met. A crow on a hotel balcony in DC, a round pigeon in a Seoul subway station, a pheasant who keeps showing up in her sister's yard in Nova Scotia. She also paints live during her weekly Thursday evening livestream, where viewers hang out, chat, and sometimes even name the paintings!
