Rocco is a ring-necked pheasant who lives somewhere near my sister's house in Nova Scotia. He shows up every now and then to hang out in the yard like he owns the place. Honestly we're not 100% sure if it's always the same pheasant or if there are a few of them taking turns. But they're all Rocco now.Ring-necked pheasants aren't actually native to Canada. They were introduced ages ago and just decided to stay. You see them all over Nova Scotia, especially in the rural areas, just wandering through fields and yards like they've always been there. They fit right in with the landscape out there. The tall grass, the rolling hills, the moody Maritime skies.I love how bold these birds are. That red face, the iridescent green neck, all those layered golden feathers. They look like they should be in a fancy painting. So here we are!
