Seamlessly bridging centuries of imperial elegance with contemporary interior design, this Museum Edition Qing Dynasty Guangxu Style Famille Rose "Magpies and Plum Blossoms" Imperial Porcelain Jar (Que Mei Wen Guan) is a masterclass in traditional Chinese porcelain artistry. Designed to serve as a profound visual anchor, its generous, full-bodied silhouette, luminous jade-like porcelain texture, and vibrant Famille Rose botanical and avian accents bring a sophisticated Oriental aesthetic that effortlessly elevates both modern Western living spaces and refined Eastern studies.
The Art of Reproduction, Provenance & Lineage
This piece is born from a profound dedication to preserving intangible cultural heritage. Rooted in a family lineage descending directly from the official imperial kilns (Guan Yao) of the Song Dynasty, our co-designers Yuchen and Judy, alongside the master artisans, meticulously reproduce museum-level masterpieces. This specific vessel is a faithful homage to the celebrated Qing Dynasty Guangxu Imperial prototype that achieved 70k USD at the 2000 Christie's Hong Kong Spring Auction ("Imperial Court & Yuanmingyuan Fine Art Sale"), capturing the supreme regal aesthetics, vibrant vitality, and solemn grandeur of the classical court era.
Traditional Imperial Kiln Craftsmanship & 1320°C Firing
Crafted strictly according to ancient imperial kiln protocols (Gu Fa Chuan Cheng), this porcelain jar represents the zenith of traditional ceramic mastery. Beginning with carefully selected natural mineral raw materials, master artisans shape the vessel through precision hand wheel-throwing (La Pei) followed by meticulous hand-trimming and paring (Li Pei) to achieve a balanced, dignified contour and uniform wall thickness. The body is first vitrified in a high-temperature kiln firing at 1320°C (2408°F), yielding a dense, resonant, and luminous white porcelain canvas. Master painters then apply intricate layers of Famille Rose (Fencai) overglaze enamels by hand (Cai Hui) before subjecting the vessel to a secondary kiln firing—achieving rich chromatic depth, delicate shading, and enduring brilliance.
The Motif — Magpies Ascending Plum Branches ("Xi Shang Mei Shao" / Joy on the Brow)
The smooth, radiant white glaze of the generous belly serves as a luminous canvas for one of the most celebrated auspicious themes in imperial court art—the classic winter vignette of "Magpies Ascending Plum Branches" (Xi Que Deng Mei):
The composition captures magpies in dynamic harmony, perching, turning, and singing amidst the branches with lifelike animation.
- Plum Blossoms ("Three Friends of Winter"): Revered as one of the "Three Friends of Winter" (Sui Han San You), the newly budding and blossoming plum flowers bloom defiantly against the winter chill, symbolizing noble resilience, purity, renewal, and vibrant life force.
- Vibrant Red Camellias ("Shan Cha Hua"): Lush, multi-layered red camellia blooms weave gracefully through the gnarled tree trunks and plum branches, representing refined elegance, noble humility, and enduring prosperity—completing a radiant, celebratory winter landscape brimming with vitality.
