Yaima
Available | 84" x 60"
Cotton, wool, recycled silk, linen | Mounted on eucalyptus branch
Tones of beige and soft green

Yaima is a handwoven tapestry that evokes the winding path of a river — fluid, layered, and quietly alive. Created with natural fibers and suspended from a eucalyptus branch, this 7-by-5-foot piece invites a sense of movement and grounded ease.

Woven in a soft palette of beige and green, the work blends cotton, wool, recycled silk, and linen to create rich texture and gentle variation. Both sculptural and serene, Yaima is a study in flow, stillness, and connection to place.

This piece is currently part of an upcoming exhibition and will be available to ship at the end of July 2025.
----

During the weeks I wove this tapestry, I also spent time sitting on the banks of a river that carves its path near my home. I remembered recently learning the meaning of the Argentine name Yaima: “that which water runs through”.

Synchronistically, I had also been wading through my own heavy emotions at the time, learning to trust my capacity to be a container for those feelings, like the banks of a river, rather than fully identifying with them or drowning in their heaviness.

Much like the ever-changing nature of a river, our emotions can shift from calm to turbulent, from whispers to roars. “Yaima” teaches us to embrace that variability, to find peace in being that which holds the water, no matter its form. It encourages us to honor the ebb and flow of our emotions, and to commit to becoming a sanctuary for them to move through and be heard.

Our emotions, represented by the coursing river, do not require us to drown in their depths, rather, they simply ask to be held, to be allowed a safe channel to flow through.

“Yaima” symbolizes the idea that we can be the stable banks of the river, holding our emotions in the safety of our hearts, and guiding that powerful force of energy towards the path of love that flows and unwinds without force or restraint.

Transforming meaning and memory into texture and color.

Using raw materials such as wool and cotton, I make sculptural wall hangings, woven together by hand. Located in the beautiful state of Utah, my work often reflects abstract landscapes, inspired by the textures and colors of the earth, water, and sky.

My work has so much more to do with creating something aesthetic for people’s homes: it’s about evoking emotions that connect us more deeply to ourselves, to each other, and to that deeper something that holds the essence and meaning of existence. My work is meant to connect and expand people in a way that brings meaning, purpose, and joy to the viewer. My intention as an artist is to create both a visual, tactile, and emotional experience for the viewer by intricately weaving meaning and memory into texture and color.

Even the rawest materials such as raffia or wool can be meticulously and gently twisted and formed with compassion into something stunningly beautiful as a whole. My work is deeply influenced by a desire to inspire others to be fiercely authentic, vulnerable, and most of all, human, while we all learn to accept, love, and celebrate who we are.

"I was looking for the perfect piece of artwork, something with texture and something unique to complete our mountain home in Cashiers, NC. While browsing through Etsy I came across Rebecca’s beautiful wall hangings and knew instantly that was the final touch our home needed! I loved her use of natural fibers and earth tones. I specifically requested to have large clusters of wool added to pay homage to the mountain, Big Sheepcliff, where our home is located. She incorporated beautifully. It was pure joy working with Rebecca! From our first correspondence it was obvious she was a true artist, kind and wanted to capture my vision and she did!"

"This stunning one-of-a-kind handwoven wall art fiber sculpture arrived carefully packaged! It is by far the most unique piece of art I’ve ever had in our home and feel privileged to be able to share it with family and friends! Rebecca worked with me to create this masterpiece to go with a guest bedroom’s color & decor. She came through with the perfect design and used lovely muted soft colors along with her amazing textured yarns and fibers! It is hard to find pristine quality and workmanship like this! And the turn around time was quick. Rebecca is also a joy to work with and wanted to make sure I was happy with her work throughout the process! Can’t thank you enough!"

"Once I hung the piece above the fireplace, I knew it was exactly what I had imagined. The room felt peaceful, warmer and cozy just as I had hoped. I was really pleased with how collaborative and interactive Rebecca was as she created my piece. She shared the colors and types of textiles she was planning to use and we tweaked it just a bit to make sure the accent colors fit my vision. She sent updated pictures as she progressed to share the work in progress and ask for feedback. This process ensured she met my expectations and I knew exactly what the finished work would look like when it arrived. It was a truly great process and I am beyond pleased with the final product."

"When I first came across Rebecca's art I immediately fell in love with her work. In particular, "The Return" was so beautiful and meaningful that I knew I would want to stare at it for years in my home. Not even thinking it was a possibility to shrink down such a detailed piece to less than 1/3 of the original size, I figured I would message her just in case. She responded promptly and told me of course that could be done! I was surprised and thrilled! Throughout the process she checked in with pictrues to make sure we were please with how the project was coming along. She also offered to customize any part of it. The depth and detail of Rebecca's art is truly mesmerizing, from the unique material used, the feeling behind each piece, to the quality of the hanging equipment included. It is truly one of a kind and I'm grateful to have it in my home!"
