When the pandemic hit, I decided to use materials I had on hand. I sewed scraps of old shirts onto topographical maps and printed on the combination. My practice seemed out of time and place, and I felt free to explore color and texture in ways I hadn't before. In the process, I spent time looking closely at the maps. I noticed the playful nature of the names of places and geographical features. We seem to long for familiarity with the land expressed by how we name places; it is a relationship I find akin to the way in which I feel about my body.
