The Melo C Desk Lamp is a sculptural ceramic desk lamp by UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip — slender, arched, and shaped by the same gravity-led process as the rest of the Melo collection. Its compact silhouette sits easily on a desk or shelf, its antique white glazed interior casting warm light that works as well focused on a page as it does softening a corner of a room.
Each piece in the Melo collection begins as a simple cylinder of stoneware. Left to respond to gravity, the wet clay sags, folds, and settles into a form no drawing could have anticipated. Filip dries it quickly — at exactly the moment the material finds its shape — fixing the movement permanently into something stone-like and still.
The textured natural exterior holds the character of raw stoneware — matte, earth-toned, honest. Inside, an antique white glaze catches and diffuses warmth, casting soft light that is equally suited to task and ambient use.
The lamp is equally effective as a focused reading light or a soft ambient accent, at home on any desk, shelf, or bedside surface. Compatible with 110–130V and 220–230V systems. Each piece carries its own subtle variation in form and surface.
Catalin Filip is a self-taught ceramicist and designer based on the south coast of England. Born in Romania, he came to clay through a background in architecture, developing an experimental practice that lets the material — and gravity — take the lead.
