My name is Mark Harris and I live in Golden Springs, Alabama, a small community outside of Anniston, Alabama. I've known since I was 17 years old (trust me, that was a long time ago) that I wanted to be a Wood Turner. It was that first experience in wood working shop in High School that got me hooked. But with life's journey and turns along the way, I never really had the opportunity to put my woodworking dreams into action.
Then after several major life changes, I'm now fulfilling that dream.
My dream is to create artistic wood turnings and bespoke epoxy resin art that inspire and bring joy to peoples lives. I also create "Functional and Decorative kitchen art and home decor such as charcuterie/serving trays and tables.
When I create Artistic wood turnings I turn wood on a lathe to create hollow vessels, rustic wood bowls and bespoke home decor pieces. For the Resin art, I create wall art with resin and wood. This is also the technique and material I use for the functional and decorative home decor and furniture.
As trees are thought to be the center of life on earth, so is wood to my art. I use wood as the central element of all my work. As an artistic woodturner and resin artist, I let the wood choose what it wants to be in the end. My turned objects don’t always fit in a single category. For my resin art I combine other element like seashells, rocks, in-animate objects, and use resin to bind all the elements together. The wood I select is ethically sourced from primarily urban, salvaged and reclaimed wood. Sometimes I could just be walking in the forest, and I hear a voice. That voice is usually a piece of fallen tree, root or limb calling out to be found. I help it to be remembered.
