Meet Katanga, a celebration of nature’s imperfect beauty, where warm wood meets the glossy depth of resin. Made from stabilized, spalted, big leaf Maple with deep cobalt blue accenting the rim and the sides. Evoking connection to the earth, it is named after the largest cobalt mining region in the world. There is so much character and organic energy in this piece. Striations of deep blacks give way to blue and meld together with the natural figuring in the wood grain. The endless dance between natural and crafted worlds moves through this piece and brings a grounding, soulful presence to any space. This piece started out at 45 lb. after being cast and completed weight is a little under 12 lb. after almost 100 hours of labor. The internal walls average 3/8” thick and has a resin finish on the inside. While the outside has an oil topcoat over resin. Includes an embedded brass coin engraved with the name, date, serial#, and signature of the artist.
