The Concept
This Southern Official Hat Armchair Trio (also known as the Wenyi or Scholar’s Chair) represents a masterly fusion of Ming Dynasty heritage and modern aesthetic refinement. Designers Yuchen and Judy performed an extensive study of ancient classical archives to innovate upon the traditional silhouette. The result is a set that maintains historical scholarly rigor while evolving to meet the fluidity of contemporary luxury living.
The Craft & Material
Handcrafted. Exclusively hand-joined with a comprehensive, nail-free mortise and tenon structure.
The set is meticulously executed in Imperial Midnight Black-Gold Wood, a legendary timber characterized by its "sink-in-water" density and eternal structural stability. The visual depth is defined by an obsidian-black surface that reveals cold, crystalline gold glimmers under light. A central peony openwork motif on the backrest symbolizes prosperity and intellectual grace. The design features the sophisticated "Pipe-Pot Tenon" (Yan Dai Guo) joinery, where the crest rail and armrests seamlessly integrate with the legs through a scientific, splayed connection that defines the pinnacle of hand-chiseling precision.
