This is a guitar stand sculpture from wood, in this case elm. We curve the legs using a traditional steam-bending process, and push it about as far as the wood and we can stand. We sculpt the “hand” that holds the guitar neck from a laminated block of wood using a bandsaw, various grindy tools, and obsessive patience.
The original client for this wanted a nice stand that was worthy of his nice guitar. He was very pleased with the first article, so we made a few more. He is happy now that he can have his guitar out in the open instead of in a case in a closet, and plays more when he has even just a few minutes.
A variation on this is also available in metal (steel or stainless steel).
