"FUM — meaning ""smoke"" in Romanian — is a handmade ceramic candleholder and sculptural object by Romanian-born, UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip, its form drawn from the gentle, suspended quality of smoke rising. Made from stoneware with a textured natural exterior and cream speckled glaze interior, it brings a warm, grounded character to any surface. Candle holder and collectible object in equal measure.
The name carries its meaning directly into the form: something soft and upward, caught and held in clay. The rhythmic, rising silhouette echoes the organic distortions that run throughout Filip's practice — natural movement fixed into stone-like permanence.
The matte, textured exterior takes nothing away from the material's own warmth. Inside, the cream speckled glaze catches candle light and holds it softly. The object carries its own presence unlit as much as lit — a considered thing regardless of function.
