It brings us closer to understanding the importance of sharing. How happiness is always greater when it can be shared and multiplied. How, in the end, seemingly isolated events are connected and interrelate in a circular way.

We need the other, to notice that someone else is feeling the same as we are at that precise moment and that what we are experiencing intangibly is also happening in someone else. That there are witnesses and that, therefore, it is transcending.

Happiness becomes real when it is shared.

I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid, and my practice emerges at the intersection between matter and meaning, unfolding through painting and installation.

María Utzella (Granada, Spain, 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid whose work merges painting and installation to explore the relationship between time, materiality, and perception. Her practice reflects on the social constructions of time and productivity, proposing an alternative rhythm grounded in contemplation and transformation.

Shadow occupies a central place as a metaphor in her work: to paint the shadow is to challenge time—to cultivate in the present with faith in the future. By questioning these frameworks, Utzella seeks to reveal how they intensify the scarcity of time and the anxiety of modern life. In response, her paintings and installations create spaces of stillness and introspection, where the perception of time becomes elastic, emotional, and relative.

Utzella holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and has also completed various training programs in performance, writing, and film. Her work has been exhibited in institutions such as Matadero Madrid, the Museum of Costume (Museo del Traje), and Sala La Capilla, and has been part of international projects such as the Art Exchange Festival in Cuba. Her pieces have also been included in auctions, including Zoara’s in 2025, and one of her works is part of a permanent exhibition at the Hotel Prado. She has undertaken artist residencies such as Can Bleu (Formentera) and has participated as a speaker in international conferences on sustainable art.

Through organic materials, translucency, and light, Utzella creates spaces that resist fragmentation and acceleration. Her work cultivates slowness, presence, and rootedness.
