This work is an original oil painting on linen canvas. It is an abstracted still life painting created in a "colorist" style influenced by jazz music and the buoyant color and light of the American South. It is part of a series titled "Springtime is Happening" created during the pandemic as I found myself, in an unexpected turn of circumstances, returning from New York City to my hometown in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, reminding myself that as everything in the world closes, springtime is happening, and there is hope.

I explore color in my work to illuminate the terrain of the subconscious, cinematographic “snapshots”. Inspired by music and dance, my marks resonate like patterns of song, poems from my experience, travels, dreams, and buoyant desires.
