A textured Deep Impasto palette knife painting in oil by an award winning San Francisco Bay artist, featuring a colorful and textured coastal seascape painting.



This painting was inspired by one of my trips to the gorgeous Monterey State Beach, California. Back in my studio in the San Francisco Bay, I captured this scene with my palette knives, using my coastal palette of blues and ochers. I love the cool blue shadows in the foreground, and the darling little abstract seagulls!

Palette knife paintings in oil, with thick impasto texture, by an award winning California artist.

Lisa Elley is a California-based contemporary artist known for richly layered oil paintings created primarily with a palette knife. Her work explores coastal landscapes, atmospheric seascapes, and refined botanical still lifes through a restrained, architectural lens.



Working in oil, Lisa builds her surfaces through broad planes of color, structured composition, and visible mark-making that balances strength with subtlety. Her recent coastal series focuses on cliffs, horizon lines, and expanses of sand, sea, and sky, less decorative interpretation and more spatial clarity.



Originally recognized for expressive, impasto-driven florals and landscapes, her practice has evolved toward a more minimal, contemporary approach that emphasizes light, structure, and negative space. The result is artwork that feels grounded, modern, and quietly expansive.



Lisa’s paintings are collected internationally and featured in both residential and commercial spaces. Alongside original works, she offers select fine art prints and digital editions, maintaining the integrity and painterly depth of the original compositions.
