This is a ‘dancing peacock Japanese maple’ (Acer Japonicum Aconitifolium) also known as ‘Maiku-jaku' in Japanese. Its massive leaves have nine points instead of 5. They can be as big a person's hand.
This is essentially a painting of the negative space—all that is not the tree— rather like one carves a woodcut or block print. I first painted the entire canvas the thin translucent fuchsia color. Then I "carved" away the shape of the tree in the paler blue paint of the sky over that. The brilliant fuchsia contrasted with the muted cool blue makes the leaves glow.
Framed in a 2-inch deep white solid wood floater frame. The 1.5” deep sides of the gallery-wrapped canvas are the same color as the tree leaves. The canvas itself is 36 x 36 inches. The framed dimensions are 38 x 38 inches.
The same size and exact same frame as Sunset Oak (2026) and Sunrise Oak and Daybreak Japanese Maple (2025).
