Along the Coast was inspired by the quiet waterways that meander through the coastal marshes of Northern California before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. These transitional places—where fresh water meets the sea—have long fascinated me. They are constantly changing with the tides, weather, and shifting light, creating landscapes that feel both expansive and intimate. This painting captures the peaceful rhythm of these waterways and the invitation they offer to pause, wander, and reflect.
A luminous palette of blues and soft aquas is balanced by warm golden grasses and deep green vegetation that frame the winding channel. Gentle transitions between color and softened edges create an atmospheric sense of depth, while the curving waterway naturally guides the eye toward the distant horizon. Thin layers of oil paint allow light to seem to radiate from within the landscape, emphasizing the quiet glow of the coastal environment.

Many of my favorite walks are along the Northern California coast, where marshes and estuaries create ever-changing patterns of water and light. I return to these places repeatedly because they offer both solitude and wonder. In Along the Coast, I wanted to capture not simply the appearance of the landscape, but the feeling of being there—the quiet anticipation of following the water as it makes its way toward the ocean, and the sense of peace that comes from witnessing nature's slow, continuous movement.
