This was a custom commission I made during winter months to be hung in a hospital in Texas.

I can make botanical cyanotypes as big as 22 x 30”, 24 x 36", 36 x 36", 26 x 40”, 30 x 40" and also 24" narrow by up to 60" in length but not more than 24" in width. If you need to cover a large area of wall, a triptych of three vertical cyanotypes works quite well. All of my commissioned works are sold unframed.
This the California gray rush or juncus patens. Each of the hundreds of separate blades of grass had to be carefully arranged by hand in exactly this composition. There is no photo negative used to make these botanicals, just the plants themselves.
This species of native wild grass grows all year round in northern California near wetlands, so it a good choice to request for a commission that cannot wait until summer. Lots of trees lose their leaves in winter and most flowers prefer to bloom in spring and summer. The exceptions are California bay laurel, eucalyptus, madrone and various ferns and wild grasses. I can make prints of these plants year-round.
Though this monotype of multiple shades of blue looks like a screen print, it is actually a nineteenth century method of photography called a cyanotype, "cyan" meaning blue in Greek.
Every botanical print is entirely unique made using fresh cut branches laid in that exact composition on the hand-coated light-sensitive paper only once. My botanical cyanotypes are each one-of-a-kind slow cameraless photographs made outdoors using natural sunlight. There is no lens, no plastic photo negative, no ink, etched plate, carved block or printing press.
