CARLOS ALVES & JC Studios

Carlos Alves has been serious about art since he was a child and it shows in his passion for making things out of clay, glass, metal, salvaged artifacts, and recycled objects. Drawing from his Cuban roots and his Miami, Florida upbringing, Carlos’ themes encompass love, hope, history, culture, politics, nature, animals and a kinship with the sea.
He graduated with an MFA from Illinois State- BFA at the University of Miami and a scholarship to Scuola Lorenzo Di Medici in Italy.
Alves kick-started his post-college career with a free-flowing tile installation located on the floor and walls of the Art Center South Florida. The project eventually led to commissions by a number of public and private clients in the US, and from London to Hong Kong.
Alves now applies his artistry to large public and private artwork projects throughout the US and abroad.
Carlos works closely with wife and partner JC Carroll for 20+ years in all aspects of public art from concept, design to installation. JC comes from a theater and set/design background and together, they make magic. As a public Art Team, they have successfully completed many Public Artworks. To name a few; Located at The Palm Beach Court House in Delray Beach, stands a 16’ Pineapple Sculpture, The entire floor terrazzo and mosaic in Concourse “C” General Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee WI, Fire Station #21 in Los Angeles California, Video Visitation Center in Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office and Verde Gardens in Homestead.
“Urban Quilt” 186’ Mosaic entrance mural located at The Dade County Children’s Courthouse. Alves enjoys art projects with children. He feels that the artist needs to create a work of art that can be appreciated by a wide range of people, and when children appreciate it, then it works. Recently completed: Courtyard Fountain, Mosaic Bench/Planters & Artistic Bamboo Railings Located at the New BARC Facility in Broward Co. Fl
Carlos is currently continuing work on a series “Animal Instincts & The Globe” creating large animal-shaped clay bodies filled with recycled figurines and glass. JC is working on “Candy and Clowns” Touching on politics and nostalgia.
Their studio is located in Little Havana, Florida
And as always there will be his ongoing series of Blue Bananas!
