The sleek pinkish hued rock base is made of Kona Dolomite and is hand picked, cut, and polished on the rugged shores of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Kona Dolomite only reaches earth's surface in Marquette Michigan and is truly unique with its swirling colors and varying mineral deposits. The base is paired with a brass armature and a sapele veneer shade with a painted marigold accent stripe.

I design and fabricate furniture and lighting using a variety of quality materials in unconventional ways. The results are one of a kind products that add character and utility to your home. I make minimal, modern craft.

Hans Gottsacker started Tapio with a comprehensive line of lighting and furniture on the rugged shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, Michigan in 2018. He holds a BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design from Northern Michigan University and an MFA in Woodworking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His designs are inspired by a 6 month arts fellowship spent in northern Finland as well as various travels and research throughout Scandinavia. Hans continues to develop new designs and further add to the Tapio catalogue with an informed design sense and a playful creative flair.
