Three hummingbirds settle into a grid of nine squares, pieced together like an old quilt. Each bird keeps to its own space, but the beak always reaches over into the square next door. The grid comes from my geometric abstract work, built up in layers of oil and wax so the surface carries a worn, fresco-like texture. Terracotta, teal, blush and gold shift from square to square, warm against cool.

The palette sits easily with natural wood, linen and warm neutrals, and the piece works well in a breakfast nook, entry or reading corner. Signed on the front.

Geometry, color, and the structures that hold them together.

Rich has been a graphic designer in Atlanta and New York for over 40 years. He is best known for designing the presentation for Atlanta's successful Olympic and Super Bowl bids while working for Copeland Design in Atlanta. He owned an award-winning design firm, FUSE, whose client list included IBM, The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Air Lines, UPS, Emory University, and Emory Healthcare, to name a few.

His unique style of design placed him among 39 other designers in the book Radical Graphics, Graphic Radicals, whose members have influenced design and ad campaigns around the globe.

Rich returned his focus to painting in 2021 and has enjoyed many fast successes, including being voted a finalist for the 2025 Balentine Prize at the Atlanta Art Fair, a solo show at Atlanta Tech Village's Sylvan Gallery, and paintings sold both nationally and internationally.
