"Huna Wai" | THE SECRET WATERS - Huna means secret or hidden, and wai means water. This is also a Hawaiian name for water droplets, and is a metaphor for something precious or important.
In Hawaii the ocean is sacred. Fresh water is also sacred. We locals keep the names and places of certain surf breaks and waterfalls a secret, until we know that a person going there will keep the location precious and sacred. It is too easy to pollute a place with the wrong intentions. Until modern times, polluting water would mean death to an entire community. As an inscription at Abydos Temple in Egypt states:
These larger than life deep blue water drop sculptures are hand cut and decorated. Each drop or wave is cut and shaped by hand. Each has seven hand painted layers of metallic wax paint, oil paint, art metal foils and art resin.
