EMBER Wave by Donatas Zukauskas
A dual-purpose sculptural object: by day, a stone-look decorative vessel whose undulating form evokes the slow movement of water or cooling lava — organic, restless, and deeply tactile. At night, when a candle is placed inside, the wave form comes alive, casting a shifting play of light across its textured walls. The EMBER Wave is the most expressive silhouette in the series — where the other EMBER pieces are vertical and totemic, this one moves.
Each piece is handcrafted from recycled paper pulp combined with organic cement, mineral pigments, and binders. After drying and finishing, the composite acquires properties closer to wood than to stone — strong, slightly elastic, and resistant to splitting. The hollow interior is not an afterthought; it is designed to hold and shape light, allowing the flame to animate the surface from within. What looks like volcanic rock by day becomes a living object by night.
Rather than concealing natural variation, this design embraces it. Cracks, surface shifts, and unpredictable texture are the point — imperfection as a way to create beauty.
Each piece is handmade and unique — minor variations in texture and surface are intentional and part of the design. Candle included. Made-to-order. Custom finishes and dimensions available on request. Trade pricing available. Ships internationally. Lead time 4–8 weeks.
Designed, crafted and built by Donatas Zukauskas — a Lithuanian sculptor and designer whose practice sits at the intersection of functional object-making and autonomous art, driven by a single conviction: imperfection as a way to create beauty.
