Between Mist and Gold
In Between Mist and Gold, Stefanie Schuessler traces the quiet moment when colour and air are still forming—that suspended hour before light gathers itself. Layers of gesso, emulsion and acrylic are worked into a textured ground, mingling with fragments of paper and touches of 24-karat gold leaf that catch and release light as the viewer moves past the surface.
Soft violets, muted rose tones and diffused blues create a drifting, atmospheric field. A chain of dark, rounded marks travels through the composition like stepping stones in fog, while curved bands of gold suggest an unseen rhythm or a distant glimmer breaking through the haze.
The painting occupies the space between abstraction and landscape—a place where mist becomes memory and texture becomes breath.
Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, gesso, emulsion, colour pencil, paper and 24-karat gold leaf.
