MOTTLED Side Table — Mottled Beige, by Donatas Zukauskas
A sculptural stone side table with a distinctive hourglass silhouette — sturdy at its base, refined at its waist, and finished in a warm mottled beige that reads closer to raw limestone or speckled sandstone. In this finish, the MOTTLED table carries a lighter, more natural presence than the black variant — but the material character is the same: archaic, tactile, and entirely unlike anything industrially produced.
The material is developed through years of personal experimentation: recycled paper pulp and cardboard — the second life of wood — combined with organic cement, binders, and paint to produce a composite that looks like cast stone but behaves differently. It is lighter than real concrete, slightly elastic rather than brittle, and sealed for long-term indoor durability. Donatas calls it the third life of wood: a material given entirely new properties through process.
Rather than concealing the marks of making, the MOTTLED table wears them as character. Surface variation, texture, and subtle tonal shifts are built into the design — imperfection as a way to create beauty.
