Arboreal Coral is a sculptural work that explores the boundary between the familiar and the unknown.
Collected following forestry pruning in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, this fragment of bark caught my attention for its intricate textures, natural openings and branching forms, which evoke the structures of coral reefs and the remains of an ancient, otherworldly landscape.
Preserved in its original form, the piece reveals a hidden sculptural presence within a material often overlooked. Its weathered surfaces and earthy tones suggest a slow transformation shaped by time, inviting the viewer to imagine unfamiliar worlds where the organic, the geological and the imaginary converge.
Rather than imposing a new form upon the material, Arboreal Coral invites us to discover the extraordinary in what nature has already created.
