I paint in two ongoing modes — place-based architectural works, and a geometric series built from the flat color-block language of the New York School and Paul Klee. This piece belongs to the second: an arrangement of muted sage, warm ochre, rust, black, and white, built up in layered blocks that shift in scale and weight across the canvas. The gold block anchors the lower half like sediment settling, while the grays and whites above it stack and shift like something still finding its balance.
The floater frame is hand-made and stained by hand, so it carries the same unhurried, imperfect quality as the paint itself — nothing here is trying to look machine-made. It's a study in weight: what happens when warmth pools low and the rest of the composition has to answer to it.. Rather than sitting flush, the canvas is intentionally proud of the frame's face — raised just above it — so the wrapped edges remain visible on all four sides. You can see the painting continue around the depth of the stretcher bars, giving the piece a sculptural quality even when viewed at an angle.
