There are some individuals who are survivors. Throw one catastrophe after another at them, and still they persist.
Artist Leisa Rich has responded to her recent Melanoma challenge by creating several works that magically transform Thomas Deans Fine Art’s new exhibition space in Aftermath: In The Pink. The show includes a massive, immersive installation that envelops the viewer by utilizing floor, wall and ceiling, wall-hung works of scar-stitched fabrics and zippered openings that spill their pink, floral guts, stunning embroidered gardens, a 3D printed chrysalis and free motion machine stitched butterflies, a large 3D printed, mixed media wall installation that resembles bleached coral in a process of regrowth, and circular panels of paint and fabric, among others. The use of white and pink are the reflection of the innocence and helplessness Rich felt while going through something of this magnitude, a death reckoning and subsequent rebirth as she overcame this major life-changing experience, and the hope that is inherent to being human as she goes forward and continues to heal. Materials: Fosshape, paint, dyes, resin, 3D printing, mixed media Technique: Crochet, heat manipulation, painted.
