"My creative process involves collective input from the client, artist and viewer."
I specialize in 2-dimensional work in digital, oil and water-based mediums. I provide artwork for various “tiers” of clients. I exhibit fine art through group exhibitions, partake in collective design projects for architectural clients, develop art for film and television set designers, create licensed images for ancillary markets, and produce high-volume prints locally and internationally. Some of my latest clients include StoneHill Taylor, Hilton Hotels, Stanford Hotels, Club Quarters Hotels, and Fox Network. I am a proud Maryland Institute, College of Art alum.
Q&A

What is your favorite material to work with?

"Paint pigments. I love creating my own pigments and noting the different properties of each one."

Q&A

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?

"I believe that synergy between the viewer, spatial context, and creative relevance is important. An image should be "true" to the history and present aura of its intended domain. As an illustrator, I plan for "seamless" experiences where art is recognized as part of the everyday-not as an isolated afterthought. Further, I want to contribute artwork that evokes spatial cognizance."

Q&A

What motivates and inspires you?

"Wisdom and experience are granted in shards and over time. Life is pure luck."

Q&A

What makes a space special?

"Top-industry media coverage, an endless marketing budget, a star-studded cast of architects and designers, eager fanboys who cosign said space as "special"...That's hype. And it works, I suppose. But, what validates a space past opening night? When the experiences of that space exceed its original purpose or relevance over time? When or if that space is part of an important event in human history or helps shape the course of architecture, art, form or function? I don't know if I have the credentials to speak on permanence in that realm, but when it comes to art-the experience must be honest in intent and successfully clear in purpose to vindicate "special" status."

Q&A

What’s unique about your work?

"Besides the fact that I've given my best years to creativity? Most of my materials are purchased in raw form from pigments, wood species, grounds, and varnishes. Understanding traditional mediums and their properties command competence for time-tested methods, the history of artmaking and knowledge of materials. This is important for personal work and time-sensitive, public works. And that's about all they share in common. Rarely do aesthetic choices or subject matter mirror between the two. My personal work derives from experiences of an emotional nature. Client-based projects invite collaboration, site objectives, and directives from a breadth of professional input."

Q&A

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"My work starts with the immediate process of quick sketches in digital and traditional mediums. The real investment begins with the preparation of raw materials. I create my own signature varnishes, pigments, canvas ground, and frames. There is an intimate bond that forms during the physical process with time and human touch. Patience, commitment, and physical investment take the stage at once."
