Fiber meets Wood

Within the quietude of São Pedro do Sul, Portugal, Ana Salazar Atelier exists as a study in material truth. It is the collaborative studio of Portuguese textile artist Ana Salazar and wood artist Prash Vadukul — a space where the organic manipulation of natural fiber meets the structural logic of wood.

The atelier was established at a point of convergence between craft and life. Following the birth of their son, the artists sought to redefine their relationship with production — migrating to Portugal to cultivate a practice that is slower, more intentional, and inherently free. What began as a technical necessity — the construction of a specialized weaving frame for the Kintsugi series — evolved into a permanent creative dialogue. These studio-engineered frames, refined by Prash for their daily practice, are now available in limited editions for the weaving community in the atelier shop.

The studio operates through a distinct physical proximity. From two separate workspaces — only ten steps apart — the sawdust of the wood and the fibers of the cord are kept distinct, yet the exchange between them is constant. The work is a result of this structural exchange; a series may originate from the physical limits of bent walnut veneer or from the intuitive requirements of a freestyle knotting pattern. Every piece is an exploration of how these two mediums can support, challenge, and eventually become inseparable.

The objective of Ana Salazar Atelier is the rejection of the temporary in favor of permanence. Utilizing sustainably sourced Oak and Walnut, the studio creates high-quality, generational objects that inhabit a space with a profound, tactile presence. These are modern relics designed to move the viewer and spark curiosity—engineered to endure and carry the record of material truth for generations.
