My latest large-scale commission, “Whimsical Waves,” gracing the Interface Chicago Showroom for NeoCon 2024.
This installation art, crafted from regenerated nylon by Aquafil, spans an impressive 14 feet wide by 3.5 feet tall. Working with Aquafil’s ECONYL® yarns has been an exciting, creative shift. These regenerated nylons—the same materials Interface uses for their sustainable rugs—are crafted from waste like discarded fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastics. This was unlike the usual 4mm cotton ropes I use. These 1mm yarns have a unique texture with subtle bulges that add depth and character to the work. It took some adjustment, but as I worked, the yarns felt as though they were guiding my hands, enriching the art in newer ways. This large-scale installation reflects innovation and environmental responsibility, with each strand adding depth and movement energizing the space around it.
Creating a unique art installation for their Chicago office was a true pleasure. Whimsical Waves—a piece made in Yashi Designs Studio brings warmth and a touch of magic to the space.
Handmade from soft cotton, each wave flows gently, adding a sense of calm and elegance. Fully modular, the sculpture allows for endless possibilities in shape and arrangement, inviting you to shape it to reflect your vision.
