Coastal artist bringing the peace of the sea to your space
Coleman Senecal is a self-taught oil painter whose work explores the quiet beauty and emotion of the natural world. Blending realism with abstraction, she creates luminous landscapes and water-inspired pieces that capture light, movement, and mood. She is currently exploring the seemingly endless patterns in nature and the way they connect in unexpectedly abstract ways. With her water paintings, she welcomes the apparent contradiction of capturing something that is in constant motion- taking a precise moment in time- and representing it on a completely still canvas.
Born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, she recently spent three inspiring years living and working in the English countryside with her family. She is constantly moved by the play of light and shadow, dramatic clouds sweeping across the sky, and ripples of water dancing endlessly to the horizon. She strongly believes that glimpses of nature should be brought inside our homes and workplaces to breathe peace, beauty and reflection into our everyday lives.
Coleman currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and three boys. When she’s not working on new paintings in her home studio, she can be found driving her older sons to their travel soccer tournaments, chasing after her two year old, snuggling her puppy, spending as much time in nature as possible, and dreaming of moving back to England with her husband one day.
