The Volcano Lamp is a hand-carved wood and marble table lamp from the Melting Collection by Gabor Gobi. Salvaged beam wood, taken to near-black by the Yakisugi charring process, meets white marble remnants in a form that reads as geological as much as designed. The contrast between scorched timber and pale stone is maintained — a compact object whose material density exceeds its scale.
Each piece is sourced before it is shaped — beam wood, marble fragments, materials marked by the lives they have already lived. The wood is charred using Yakisugi, the Japanese method of preservation through fire, then finished with natural oils and sealed with beeswax. A thin cork layer sits beneath.
The resulting surface holds its tensions: charred wood and flowing marble appearing to merge under sustained pressure. The sealed finish gives the surface a depth that shifts as light changes — different in the morning than at night.
