Hand Knotted in wool, originating from Turkey circa 1950-1960, this 2x2 vintage gift-sized square rug is a very special piece from an exceptional mid-century curation of Oushak rugs new to Rug & Kilim’s collection.

On the Design:

Connoisseurs will admire this personal vintage rug meant to catch the eye, yet still so atypical in its color and design choices that are so complementary to each other making it a comfortable, and inviting piece. Once again among the exemplars of the more feminine, less formal, yet ever elegant style that Oushaks are loved for, with plentiful personality and distinction in its own right that sets it and the others in this unique mid-century collection of accent rugs apart Particularly special is the rich saturated color, where purple, green, beige-brown and blue tones are among the stars that underscore a play of open field and medallion geometric patterns.

There’s an exceptional yarn at work here, and some of the most delicious and vibrant colors alike for a tribal shabby-chic work of its period. Furthermore, there’s a subtle element of distress in the texture that only adds to the charm of the piece, which is among the most modern-minded mid-century Oushak rugs we’ve seen of its provenance—let alone of its versatile size as well.

Condition:

This vintage Oushak square rug further enjoys great condition for its age with only mild wear consistent with age, and is ready for the floor.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
