This vintage 4x6 Bokhara tribal rug is among the most exciting new additions to Rug & Kilim’s Collection; from a newly curated line of unique pieces entering their vintage tenure, made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Pakistan circa 1970-1980.

On the Design:

This vintage design demonstrates exceptional compositional discipline through its systematic all-over pattern of repeating geometric medallions arranged in precise rows across the dramatic deep black field. The signature gul motifs—stylized geometric forms—are rendered in luminous, warm tones of soft peach, pale gold, and muted slate green against the profound darkness, creating a high-contrast, jewel-box effect. The medallions employ a structured diamond and intricate cruciform configuration. Notably, the piece is framed by a broad border featuring geometric step patterns in shades of apricot and pale tan, which beautifully illuminates the edge. Secondary geometric elements fill the negative space, maintaining coherence and traditional tribal density. The bold black field and warm contrasting palette make this piece ideal for adding depth and luxury to modern or transitional spaces. Its compact size makes it a striking focal point for an entryway or beneath a sophisticated side table.

Condition:

This Bokhara rug further enjoys a great condition for its age and origin, and is ready for the floor.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
