The Nacreous Champagne Tide — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Mother-of-Pearl Wave in Champagne and Silver

Price from $254 to $362

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): raden-inspired mother-of-pearl wave (波) currents in champagne, silver and faint apricot. Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For luminous, pale interiors. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Raden. Light on water. The Japanese art of inlaying mother-of-pearl, translated here through the loom — iridescent currents in champagne, silver and the faintest apricot. Across the surface, sweeping abstract wave currents — inspired by raden — wash in champagne gold, cool silver, and the faintest whisper of apricot. The mosaic-like texture of the weave refracts light differently at every angle, giving the silk an almost liquid luminosity. In the Nishijin tradition, this iridescent quality is achieved through the precise interplay of silk and metallic thread. The champagne gives the composition its calm. The silver gives it its tide. A pillow that disappears beautifully into all-white interiors, glows against stone and travertine — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure, cream silk reverse. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Weave / technique Nishijin-ori 西陣織 (fukuro obi 袋帯) Motif Raden-inspired mother-of-pearl wave 波 (light on water) Construction Seamless envelope closure; no metal against the visible silk Dimensions 50 × 30 cm; small format also offered live Origin of silk Japan Assembled in Amsterdam, Netherlands Care Spot clean only Unrepeatable Yes SKU REN-PIL-019-L Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
