The Gilded Ogi Harmony — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Folding Fan in Cream and Gold

Price $362

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): ogi (扇, folding fans — suehiro 末広, opening fortune) cascading in gold across a soft cream ground. Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For restrained, considered rooms. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Ogi. Suehiro — fortune opening. The folding fan of Japanese court culture, tea ceremony and Noh theatre — opening here in cascading formation across cream silk. Against a soft cream silk ground — the colour of restraint, of considered elegance — ogi folding fans unfurl in cascading formation, lavishly embroidered in burnished gold, persimmon orange and deep azure blue. Each fan opens to reveal intricate inner worlds of kiku chrysanthemums and stylised pine, bound in the overlapping rhythm only a Nishijin master weaver could sustain. The cream gives the composition its discretion. The gold gives it its harmony. A pillow for navy, forest green, warm ivory — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Weave / technique Nishijin-ori 西陣織 (fukuro obi 袋帯) Motif Ogi 扇 (folding fan; suehiro 末広 — opening fortune) Construction Seamless envelope closure; no metal against the visible silk Dimensions 50 × 30 cm Origin of silk Japan Assembled in Amsterdam, Netherlands Care Spot clean only Unrepeatable Yes SKU REN-PIL-009-L Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
